In this episode the incredibly loving and wise Waldorf mama Judy Fayre speaks with me about whether or not chest and breastfeeding does or does not have anything to do with the "Waldorf approach".
Judy Fayre is currently a registered nurse and IBCLC (lactation specialist) who has spent the last 20 years working closely with adults in their early parenting years. From helping mothers who have just given birth, to supporting parents during the weaning process, she listens to the goals of the family and helps them reach them. She has facilitated prenatal classes, breastfeeding classes and has held weekly newborn support groups for mothers/caregivers. She offers home visits and tele-health visits, working one-on-one with parents of young babies as they discover the skills of feeding and caring for their newborn. Previous to becoming a labor and delivery nurse in her early 40’s, Judy raised her own children using an attachment parenting style. She was a ‘Waldorf Parent’ for 12 years. She was also a Waldorf handwork teacher in grades 1-8 and occasionally was a guest teacher in the high school health class during the lessons on pregnancy and birth. Once her own children were grown, she and her wife became foster parents. Specializing in caring for children with special needs, they have welcomed into their home seven children, including a newborn with micro-opthalmia (blind) as well as pregnant teens, helping prepare them to become mothers themselves. Most recently, Judy has welcomed a grandson, being privileged to attend his birth. She is still smiling deeply from this experience.
As you'll hear in this episode, I love Judy. She and I go way back. She's offered me tremendous support in becoming a mother to my young children and I was so so grateful that she agreed to share her wisdom with me in this episode.
